Cool game. The only CAVE game that I can say that I don't hate besides DOJ and Ibara (haven't played any of the other YGW games or DFK).

Great stages, great bosses, great tunes. The DEFENSIVE LINE track was one of my favorite Namiki songs long before I'd ever played the game.

Scoring system is pretty neat, but I don't really know how the timing works on the get-chips-but-don't-kill-multiplier tactic. I haven't played it very much for score at all. I only played it three days, in fact, and I had my best (lol) score of 59M by the second, and it was mostly just through survival (I was trying to win a bet that I could 1-ALL it from a Monday to a Wednesday...Didn't sleep enough, but learned how to no-miss to 1-4 and no-miss 1-5 until the end with the big enemies and stuff).

I find it quite a bit more difficult to accurately position a helicopter in pointblank position than I do to keep a DOJ-jet in chaining position. DOJ is such a damn lenient game compared to this -- 80% of the game (practically) your vertical orientation doesn't matter a single bit outside of dodging, as all you need to hold a chain is a laser or a tap of C.

I don't really see very many people who actually play the game talking about it, mostly just retarded "KDF" banter and stuff like that. Could we coax some opinion out of MrMonkeyMan?

Lol, it's impossible to get hands on this game, don't you know. I mean, it's not even on MAME yet or anything. Only for that Japo XPOX, and noone has it.

But yeah, this is only CAVE shmup I'm really interested in, besides that obvious Mushihimesama Futanari. I tried all the CAVE stuff available for MAME and they were just annoying.

I have it, and I love Ketsui.

I love the fact that you actually have to dodge bullets in this game. I love the fact that the scoring system forces you to fly all around the screen constantly, you hardly ever get to sit still. I love how the scoring system isn't super punishing for making a simple mistake. I love how the second loop's scoring system is actually different from the first loop, so entirely new strategies are needed. I love that you can actually use bombs without destroying your score. I love how little slowdown there is in the game. I love how a loop only takes 20 minutes. And the music is pretty rocking too.

Pretty much every game from Cave after this relied on bullet canceling, giant bullet clouds, and ridiculous amounts of slow motion.

Weeaboos don't count.

Evaccania DOOM is plain awesome boss. I have fought it as Touhou Danmakufu script and it's hell a lot of fun. NO REMORSE is a great theme for it, too.

Type-A or Type-B

which is better and why

and I'm not accepting "it's a matter of taste"

But it is a matter of taste.

I'm sure the slower speed and the spread shot of the Type A would be easier to start with.

I found I would fly in to enemies and bullets a lot more with the Type B when I first started playing which is why I chose the Type A. I'm sure I could play just fine with the Type B now though.

It is a lot of fun ripping around the screen with the Type B.

I was using B for the run where I almost 1-ALLed it. It's so slick to zip around and hold C like a lunatic. Type A is better once you know exactly where you're supposed to be at any given point in the stage and have a good path, I'd think. It's definitely easier to do things like the Vinogradov 1up with it. I should hook up the j360 again and give it another shot for another three days.

What really matters is...

Does Type-B have drastically increased FOCUSED speed?

According to one of Valgar's posts in one of the Ketsui threads on shmups.system11.org, A and B move at the same rate when in lockshot mode.

Oh Yes.

So it doesn't matter that much.

Now, getting Ketsui DL is a different thing.
