What the hell is up with NeoGAF? I see a link to a highscore thread, but I'm apparently not privileged enough to view it.

Apparently that thread is posted under the "Online / Matchup Forum" which seems to be open for registered visitors only. I guess it makes sense considering people are posting their gamertags and whatnots there.
Though, you're really not missing anything - only two people have posted in that highscore thread and they're not particularly impressive. I'm sure you have most, if not all, beat already.

Ok, one more question. I see you using some Japanese uploader site, but I can't find any link to actually download these files.

Whoops, I thought that was part of the ad directly below it. Thanks, I'll check some of your levels out now.

I'm about 75% done with the Free Play stages, so I decided to give the stage creator a whirl.
stage data
replay data for said stage
The stage transfer function is a bit touchy. If it fails, make sure you've got the volume cranked up, and if it's still giving you fits, adjust the distance between your speaker/headphone and the DS mic. Once I found a good position it works pretty much all the time, though.

I made a stage. Yes. Wait... needs more polish. Pretty stage.. Wondering: are there more than 3 people here who enjoy Bangai-O Spirits?

I think most of us here think it's at least a pretty good game.
I personally don't feel it lives up to the standards of Treasure ten years ago, or the standards of the DC Bangai-oh. But compared to most the dreck that comes out these days the game's a fricken masterpiece.

When you speak of standards in videogames, generally the standard assumed is that the games will continually get better over time, or in another perspective, they will continue to give at least the same degree of impact as the games preceding them. That's what we expect, or look for, consciously or not. In my experience, treasures games don't get better. Even the sequels are more like a different take on the same ideas rather than an improvement on the originals. That's what I've come to accept.
That's my take on the matter. I don't really care that Gunstar Super Heroes isn't better than Gunstar Heroes, even though it could very well have been. I just enjoy it for what it is, and what it is happens to be awesome.
I've never played Bangai-O on DC or N64. I will say however that in Spirits, the level editor is awesome, and therefore I automatically love the game. It may not have all the bells and whistles of it's elder brethren, but it has the editor, among a couple other upsides. Treasure is a very give-and-take developer.

By the way: http://ds.ign.com/articles/907/907063p1.htmlCame across this a few days ago. I haven't tried any of the levels yet. Actually, I haven't even used the sound load feature before. The level is almost done. It is my baby! I just need to obsessively pour over every inch and detail for a little while longer.

Quadruple posting ftw! I can't believe it was all the way back in December when I had posted this. And I haven't really played B-OS since then for some reason. =/ Anyways, the level I posted took me FOREVER to make... I pushed the available space to the limits, and the number of objects to the maximum. I really had to squeeze, but I managed to accomplish what I wanted within the very limited volume of resources granted. I literally picked over every single grid cell over and over again, balancing cosmetics and presentation as heavily as gameplay, playtesting endlessly to make sure everything was as smooth and streamlined as possible, and generally doing whatever I could do to make the experience the best that it could be. I even wrote a backstory to the level (above, lol). And the funny thing is, after I've finally brought myself to calling this thing complete, not a single person has yet to play it but me... I'm not about to beg here, but if you have B-OS (I own the North American version, in case it matters), I would really appreciate it if you gave my level a shot. Also, if anyone here happens to have a feasible way of recording DS footage, such that you can actually see it (my digital camera proved quite horrid), please let me know! It doesn't matter if you can't get the audio at the same time, if that makes a difference. I'm assuming that any emulators wouldn't work with the sound load feature...

I can't download or play .wavs on my phone, is there any chance of another link, one to an mp3? Also, I'd be surprised if no one would play it if you posted it on the gamefaqs B-OS board; EskimoMario555 acts like he would die to play the game for five more minutes =P

I played it. Really high quality. Good job. I prefer that the more difficult stages be shorter. There's a couple sections towards the end where you can instantly die if you aren't paying attention.
Overall, great job.

Mad Mage wrote: There's a couple sections towards the end where you can instantly die if you aren't paying attention. I think the whole game is like that. I did have to try and make sure there was some challenge to it without having any extra objects available with all the fancy stuff going on... Actually, I find that I prefer having small numbers of challenging enemies, because it forces you to actually use skill to play the game, rather than just BSing with the EX attack when there's billions of enemies and missiles around. But anyways, I do see where you're coming from there. It is a long level. And thanks for the kind words.

I'll check yours out next time I play the game, moosa.
I also have a few near-finished levels I'll post here after some more tweaks.
