I think Gravity Kills is my favorite band. Sometimes I think it's Metallica, sometimes I think it's Tool, but when I turn on the Gravity Kills, there's no doubt. It's like I was making music in the 90s instead of going to school. REALLY cool background music for just about anything. Pretty much enhances almost anything I've played that I can think of.
Side note, on the other end of the spectrum, I love A Perfect Circle's cover of When the Levee Breaks. Anyone knows of any music similar to that, make sure you say so. I'll pay in planetary interconnections. I found some Stevie Ray Vaughan that's pretty damn awesome, but I think I need more.
Resident favorite band thread, anyone?

I did, and that was a good call! :)
The first track I listened to was The Stone, and I thought it sounded quite familiar. Surprise, surprise, Billy Howerdel happens to be the guitarist for A Perfect Circle, and a wiki dive reveals that he had been working on the track during an APC stint ^_-

Yep, it's basically Howerdel's solo project. Howerdel also contributed the vocals to some of the tracks on eMotive. The first (and only) Ashes Divide album has it's ups and downs. I expected more from Howerdel's compositional ability, but there's some good music in there nonetheless. If nothing else, it's original. The Stone is one of the most solid & familiar sounding tracks. Most of the tracks actually aren't that heavy, which is what made me think of it when you mentioned "When the Levee Breaks."
