Gunstar Heroes, the game that started it all. Chock full of insane shooter action the instant you take control of your character. Pick your weapon, pick your shooting stance and have at her. Gameplay rarely strays from the standard run and gun formula and it's better for it.

Stocked with 7 stages, the game offers plenty of variety while keeping the heart of the game intact the whole time. Whether you're running through a jungle, riding through a mine at break neck speeds, chasing after an enormous rocket, or even fighting your way through a deadly board game you'll always have tons of enemies on screen to test your one, of many, weapons on, while dodging their massive bullet storms as well. The little guys that fill the levels aren't too much of a problem, but there's a boss every minute or two just to keep you on your toes. These bosses aren't just push overs either, they're huge and very impressive! Just wait until you meet up with Seven Force for the first time, I guarantee it'll be an exciting battle!

Of course, this isn't just a Contra clone. Not one bit. Sure, there's plenty of run 'n gun action, but your gun's not your only weapon. You've got your boots which are handy for jump kicking enemies, and your fists which are great for picking an enemy up and tossing him at another for maximum damage. Hell, in two player mode you can even grab your pal and lob him at anything in your way for some extra thrills. With all the tossing, bullets and explosions on the screen it's hard to believe your little Genesis can handle this game.

There's also some pretty catchy music, but for anyone playing the game for the first time it's doubtful they'll come away with even one song stuck in their head. Don't worry though, they'll definitely grow on you, and you can't help but be charmed by the grunts and groans of Red and Blue as they jump and toss they're way through the game.

It also offers four difficulty settings, but even to the most seasoned of veterans the game doesn't offer a whole lot of challenge. There are some tough spots for sure, but the game is pretty easy to get the hang of, and having health instead of the Contra style single hit deaths does allow some extra breathing room.

What more can I say? It's action packed with fun, and when you grab a buddy to play the game with you it only gets better.
